The Ajanta Caves in Aurangabad district of Maharashtra state of India are about 30 rock-cut Buddhist cave monuments which date from the 2nd century BCE to about 480 or 650 CE.Aurangabad is a city in Maharashtra state, in India. It’s known for the 17th-century marble Bibi ka Maqbara shrine, styled on the Taj Mahal. The nearby Shivaji Maharaj Museum, dedicated to the Maratha king Shivaji, displays war weapons and a coin collection. North of the city.

Day 01: Mumbai

On Arrival, be meet and assisted by a Secrets of India représentative, who will assist you to Check in at the hotel. Overnight in Delhi.

Day 02: Mumbai

Today, proceed on a half-day tour of Mumbai. Mumbai is the commercial capital of India, and a fast paced, cosmopolitan city. Visit the Gateway of India, situated at Apollo Bunder. It was built to commemorate the visit of King George V and Queen Mary to India in 1911. Next, visit the Prince of Wales Museum, which houses a priceless collection of art, sculpture, china and other antiques. Drive past the Victoria Terminus, Mumbai University and Rajabai Clock Tower. Make a photo stop at Dhobi Ghat, the open-air laundry of the city. Drive past Marine Drive, Chowpatty Beach, the Parsi Towers of Silence and Malabar Hill. Visit Mani Bhavan, the old Mumbai residence of Mahatma Gandhi. It’s a pretty, two-storied structure that showcases well-preserved memorabilia, including an old charkha or spinning wheel that Gandhiji used to use. Overnight in Mumbai.

Day 03: Mumbai / Aurangabad .( by flight)

Today, you will leave for airport to board your flight to Aurungabad where in you can unwind yourself in the hotel after arrival..Overnight in Aurangabad.

Day 04: Aurangabad

Today, visit the Ellora Caves. They were carved out of the vertical face of the Charanandri hills between the 6th and 10th centuries. The carving work began around 550 AD, about the same time the Ajanta Caves (100km northeast) were abandoned. At the time, Buddhism was declining in India and Hinduism was beginning to reassert itself. There are 34 caves in all: 12 Buddhist caves, 17 Hindu caves and 5 Jain caves, Ellora Caves were designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1983. Later visit Bibi-ka-Makbara, the mausoleum of Aurangzeb’s queen… this mausoleum is also called ‘Mini TajMahal’ owing to it being a smaller replica of the Taj. Day 05: Aurangabad - Ajanta (110 Kms / 2 Hrs) and Ajanta - Jalgoan (90 Kms / 2 Hrs)

Today, enjoy a tour of the Ajanta Caves. These are a series of 29 Buddhist cave temples, some of which date from the 2nd century BC. Encompassing both Theravada and Mahayana Buddhist traditions, the Ajanta caves preserve some of the best masterpieces of Buddhist art in India. They were carved out of a horseshoe-shaped cliff and used by Buddhist monks as prayer halls (chaityagrihas) and monasteries (viharas) for about nine centuries, and then abruptly abandoned. The Mahayana caves feature colorful murals and statues depicting the life (and former lives) of the Buddha and various Bodhisattvas. The caves also depict scenes from everyday life, contemporary people, kings, slaves, women, men and children interlaced with flowers, plants, fruits, birds and beasts. Overnight in Jalgoan

Day 06: Jalgoan - Omkareshwar –Maheshwar.(240 Kms / 6 Hrs)

This morning, you will leave for Maheshwar, a place famous for its historical temples and fine textiles. En route you will visit Omkareshwar temple, located on the banks of the Narmada River. Overnight in Maheshwar.

Day 07: Maheshwar - Mandu (60 Kms / 1 Hr 30 Mins)

Today you will leave for Mandu. Under Mughal rule, Mandu was a pleasure resort. Here you will visit the JahazMahal or ship palace. Overnight in Mandu.

Day 08: Mandu

Today, you will visit the Jama Masjid. Facing the Jama Masjid, you will visit the AshrafiMahal, which was built as a place for Islamic teachings. Next you will visit the Rani RoppmatiPavillion. Next you will visit the HathiMahal, or ‘Elephant Palace’. The pillars at the palace resemble the legs of an elephant and thus it found its name. Overninght in Mandu

Day 09: Mandu - Indore (100 Kms / 2 Hrs 30 Mins)

This morning you will leave for Indore. Indore is the capital city of the erstwhile Holkar rulers. It is an important industrial city in central India and is known as ‘mini Mumbai’. There are a number of historical monuments in Indore belonging to the Holkars. Indore is also known for its temples. The Rajwada or the old palace, located in the old part of the city, near the bustling Khajuri Bazaar, is an important site to visit. This building is a unique blend of French, Mughal and Maratha style of architecture. This seven story, 200-year-old building reflects the glory of the Holkars. Another attraction of Indore city is the Gandhi Hall or Town Hall, built in 1904. This Indo-Gothic styled building is also referred as GhantaGhar because it has a four-faced clock tower in the front. A number of art and cultural exhibitions are held in this building. The Chhatri (Cenotaph) Bagh, located near the Kham River, has a number of chhatris or memorial cenotaphs erected in memory of the erstwhile Holkar rulers and their family members. Day 10: Indore - Bhopal (225 Kms / 5 Hrs)

This morning you will leave for Bhopal, this city of great scenic beauty and is dotted with lakes. Bhopal, the capital of Madhya Pradesh is also known as the city of lakes. It boasts of rich cultural heritage and has several places of interest. Visit the Lakshmi Narayan Temple, dedicated to the Lord Vishnu and his consort Lakshmi, Taj- ul- Masjid, the ShaukatMahal and the Moti Masjid. The Taj-ul-Masajid is one of the largest mosques in Asia. Overnight in Bhopal.

Day 11: Bhopal - Sanchi - Bhopal (46 Kms / 1 Hr)

Today early morning, you will leave for an excursion to Sanchi. Here you will see magnificent caves art from the Gupta period. You will also visit the renowned Sanchistupa. Overnight in Bhopal.

Day 12:Bhopal/Bhimbetka/ and Bhopal/Agra by train ( 46kms/ 1hr)

Today, visit the Bhimbetka, 46 kms south of Bhopal. In this rocky terrain of dense forest and craggy cliffs, over 600 rock shelters belonging to the Neolithic age were recently discovered… now, they find enlistment as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. The cave in Bhimbetka have paintings which are the prime attractions and show striking similarity to the aboriginal rock paintings of the Savanna regions of Australia, the paintings done by pygmies of the Kalahari Desert and the Paleolithic Lascaux cave paintings of France. You will return to Bhopal in time to board your train to Agra. Overnight in Agra

Day 13: Agra – Delhi.(200kms/ 4hrs)

Today, take a tour of Agra, which is believed to have been founded in 1504 by Sultan Sikander Lodi, but flourished later under the Mughal Empire.. You will visit the TajMahal at sunrise…a mausoleum built as a symbol Emperor Shah Jehan’s devotion to his beloved queen MumtazMahal. Considered an architectural marvel, its construction took thousands of workers over 21 years to complete. Post your visit of Taj you will Learn More the Red Fort of Agra, which was commissioned in 1565 by Akbar, and subsequently embellished by other Mughal Emperors. Day 14: Delhi/Departure

Today, you will proceed for a full-day tour of Old and New Delhi. This fascinating city has been in existence since the 6th century BC and has seen ups and downs from the rule of the Pandavas right up to the British Raj. Visit Jama Masjid, which is the largest mosque in India, commissioned by Emperor Shah Jahan. The courtyard of the mosque can hold about 25,000 worshippers. Enjoy a rickshaw ride in ChandniChowk, the busiest market in Old Delhi…noisy, chaotic and uniquely Indian. Drive past Red Fort, President House, India Gate and several other government buildings in Edwin Lutyen’s modern Delhi before you head to Rajghat, the memorial to Mahatma Gandhi that marks the spot where Mahatma Gandhi was cremated in 1948. Thereafter, visit Humayun’s Tomb, commissioned by Humayun’s wife HamidaBanu Begum in 1562. It was the first garden tomb built in the Indian sub-continent where the Persian architect used red sandstone on a large scale. Post dinner you will proceed to the aiport to board your flight back home.
